The purpose of the various studies included in this report was not simply to verify the existence of Islamophobia, which is defined as “fear of Islam” and which entails a feeling of hatred and/or repudiation towards Muslims and the Islamic religion, but also bring forward reflections that underlie this feeling of repudiation; themes that are often included in a perspective that simply projects “religious intolerance”, but that the quantitative research presented here precisely demonstrates other points that intersect: issues of class, race and gender, as well as
propositions that involve conservative and traditionalist right-wing political positions, leading to the understanding of Islamophobia as a complex and multidimensional phenomenon.
